Student-athletes across the country now have access to free mental health care through a nonprofit built specifically for the pressures they face. Beyond the Playbook Foundation provides therapy, professional counseling, case management, and critical resources to student-athletes at no cost.
Headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, FL, the organization works through partnerships with licensed social workers, licensed mental health counselors, sports psychologists, psychologists, and case managers. The network is designed to address the distinct challenges athletes encounter while balancing academics, athletic performance, and personal struggles.

Beyond the Playbook Foundation exists to ensure no student-athlete has to struggle in silence. Its mission is to give athletes a safe space where they can access care, resources, and a trusted support system. The organization’s slogan, “Train the mind, Win the Game,” reflects its focus on the whole athlete rather than performance alone.
Founder and CEO Cariece Peck started the organization from personal experience. A former student-athlete, Peck understood the pressure of competition and the expectation to perform. She also knew the difficulty of not knowing where to turn when struggling mentally. Her prior work as a publicist representing professional athletes showed her how many competitors dealt with mental health challenges privately. At the same time, the number of student-athletes coming forward is on the rise.
That combination led to a simple belief: the mental game matters as much as the physical one. This belief has grown into a full nonprofit serving hundreds of student athletes across the country. The foundation now offers mental health support for student-athletes, including counseling access, scholarship funding, peer support networks, and educational resources. Each service is designed around the specific pressures that come with competitive sports and academic life.
Peck described the stakes in direct terms. “Student-athletes are trained to push through pain, fight through pressure, and never show weakness but the battles they fight in silence can be the most dangerous,” she said. “Beyond the Playbook Foundation exists to make sure no athlete has to face those battles alone. Their value is greater than a scoreboard, scholarship, jersey, or statistic. We want every student-athlete to know that their mind matters, their life matters, and asking for help is a sign of strength.”
The organization’s approach combines professional care with peer support. Student-athletes can connect with licensed counselors and case managers who understand the demands of their schedules and identities. They can also join peer networks where they speak with others who share similar experiences. Scholarship funding and educational resources round out the support, helping athletes manage both immediate mental health needs and longer-term goals.
The foundation’s vision is a world where every student-athlete has equal access to mental health care, resilience training, and support. To that end, Beyond the Playbook Foundation continues to build partnerships with clinical professionals and expand its reach to more student-athletes across the country.
