A veteran sports industry executive with over four decades of experience has established a new leadership platform aimed at helping young athletes and their mentors navigate the increasingly complex world of competitive sports. Christopher “Coach” Rivers, who previously directed major grassroots basketball events and managed relationships with NBA All-Stars during his career at Adidas and Reebok, has launched Chris Rivers RAPP to address what he sees as critical gaps in youth sports development.
The platform focuses on creating healthier athletic journeys for young competitors through motivational speaking engagements, professional coaching, and customized programming. Rivers brings a unique perspective shaped by his diverse background, which includes stints as a high school teacher, youth coach across multiple sports, and senior executive at global athletic brands.
During his 18-year tenure in sports management, Rivers oversaw iconic basketball exposure events including ABCD Camp, RBK U All American Camp, Boost Mobile Elite 24, adidas Nations, and adidas Gauntlet. He also played instrumental roles in the career development of several NBA MVPs and future Hall of Famers, experiences that now inform his approach to youth athlete development.
The Oakland, California native began his coaching journey as an undergraduate at UC Davis in 1992, eventually teaching at St. Joseph-Notre Dame High School in Alameda and Garfield Elementary School in San Leandro. While maintaining his teaching career, Rivers continued coaching basketball, youth football, and lacrosse, while also building track and competitive cross-country programs.
Currently serving as Senior Director of NIL Recruiting at Excel Sports Management, Rivers identifies and guides student-athletes beginning their professional basketball journeys. This role complements his leadership platform’s mission by providing him with current insights into the evolving landscape of college athletics and name, image, and likeness opportunities.

The platform offers two primary service categories: Athlete Huddles and Coaching & Parent Huddles. Athlete sessions focus on unlocking potential, optimizing sports experiences, understanding NIL opportunities, and embracing the athlete role. Parent and coach sessions emphasize building winning cultures, developing confidence, setting realistic expectations, and mastering effective coaching techniques.
Rivers’ approach has garnered positive responses from athletic programs across the country. His speaking engagements have taken him to Louisiana Tech University and Texas State University, where he addressed basketball programs and donors on building organizational culture. He has also worked with high school programs from Florida to Oregon, delivering messages that resonate with diverse audiences of athletes, parents, and coaches.
The platform’s impact extends beyond single speaking events. Rivers maintains ongoing relationships with athletes through social media mentorship and continues engaging with programs after initial presentations. His ability to connect with both parents and teenagers simultaneously has become a hallmark of his speaking style, using personal anecdotes and real-world experiences from his extensive career.
Educational institutions and athletic organizations have particularly valued Rivers’ insights on navigating social media, accepting team roles, and understanding the business aspects of sports. His presentations blend practical advice with entertainment, creating engaging experiences that leave lasting impressions on young athletes.
The launch of Chris Rivers RAPP represents a natural evolution of Rivers’ career-long commitment to youth development. By combining his industry connections, coaching experience, and understanding of modern athletic challenges, the platform addresses contemporary issues facing young athletes, including recruitment processes, NIL opportunities, and maintaining perspective amid competitive pressures.
As youth sports continue to evolve with increasing professionalization and financial opportunities at younger ages, platforms focused on holistic athlete development become increasingly vital. Rivers’ initiative aims to fill this need by providing guidance that extends beyond athletic performance to encompass life skills, decision-making, and long-term success both within and outside of sports.
