Most business coaches come from corporate backgrounds or MBA programs. Carolyn Cahn took a different route—through hospital corridors and patient care. As a registered nurse with a master’s degree in Health Care Services Administration, she spent years watching people struggle not just with physical ailments, but with the invisible barriers they built in their own minds.
That observation led her down what she calls “less traditional methods” of helping people. Today, she combines her medical training with an unusual toolkit: Master Certification in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, hypnotherapy, Reiki, and techniques like IEMT and tapping. It’s an approach to business coaching and personal development that treats success as much a matter of mental programming as strategy.
The Self-Talk Problem
Cahn focuses on women entrepreneurs, a group she believes faces particular challenges in pursuing their ambitions. Her philosophy centers on what she calls “self-talk”—the running commentary people maintain in their heads. When someone repeatedly tells themselves “I’m dumb” or “I’m stupid” after setbacks, their brain doesn’t dismiss it as venting. It encodes it as truth.
“The more you say those negative things, your brain actually begins to enable that concept in the brain, and then you believe it,” she explains. “And then you stop yourself.”
Her background as a nurse gives her what she considers an advantage in identifying what’s actually blocking someone. Often, it’s not lack of knowledge or resources. It’s the internal narrative that’s been running so long it feels like fact rather than fiction.
Beyond Generic Goal-Setting
Cahn describes herself as a “dream creator” who works across eight life areas including relationships, happiness, and spirituality—not just professional achievement. Her process involves understanding what clients have already tried, why it didn’t work, and whether their stated goals align with what they actually want.

She’s critical of what she sees as repetitive advice in the coaching industry. Instead of generic frameworks, her methodology for helping entrepreneurs tailors strategies to individual circumstances. The medical training shows up here too: diagnosis before prescription.
Her education includes studying under high-profile trainers like Tony Robbins, Dean Graziosi, and Tad James, from whose company she received her NLP and hypnosis certifications. She maintains credentials through multiple professional organizations, blending conventional healthcare administration expertise with alternative therapeutic approaches.
Scaling the Personal
Cahn’s ambition extends beyond one-on-one client work. She’s aiming to help thousands of women entrepreneurs succeed in what she sees as interconnected business and life goals. It’s a vision that requires scaling deeply personal work—the kind that addresses why someone really wants what they say they want, and what unconscious scripts might be preventing them from getting there.
For entrepreneurs stuck despite knowing what steps they should take, her approach to overcoming mental barriers offers an explanation that goes beyond discipline or motivation. Sometimes the obstacle isn’t out there in the market. It’s in the conversation you’ve been having with yourself for years.
