Long before “mindful drinking” became a buzzword, Jules Aron was already mixing herbs, botanicals, and wellness principles into cocktail shakers across New York City. Dubbed “the wellness mixologist” by Women’s Health magazine, Aron has spent more than a decade building a career that bridges two worlds typically kept separate: the bar industry and holistic health.
With over 15 years of NYC bar service experience and credentials as an integrative nutritionist, yoga instructor, Qigong practitioner, and reiki specialist, Aron’s approach to beverage consulting and holistic nutrition emerged from an unusual childhood influence. Her father introduced her to herbal medicine early on, sparking a fascination with the medicinal properties of plants and botanicals that would eventually define her professional path.
Five Books and a Movement
Aron’s 2016 book, “Zen and Tonic: Savory and Fresh Cocktails for the Enlightened Drinker,” introduced readers to the concept of plant-powered cocktails that prioritized nutrition alongside flavor. She was among the first to advocate for natural sweeteners and botanical-infused syrups in cocktail recipes, emphasizing superfoods and nutrient-dense ingredients over traditional mixers.
By 2021, with five best-selling books under her belt, Aron released “Low Proof Happy Hour,” tackling the growing moderation movement head-on with recipes designed for lower alcohol consumption. The timing proved prescient as consumer interest in mindful drinking continues to grow.
Supporting an Industry in Crisis
When the pandemic shuttered bars and restaurants, Aron pivoted to support the struggling hospitality community. She launched “SIP with PBI” for Palm Beach Illustrated magazine, a show spotlighting local restaurants during their darkest days. The series succeeded enough to expand into Naples with “SIP with NI,” and both continue today.
Her commitment to hospitality consulting and industry education extends beyond media. She’s served as beverage director for Miami’s Seed Food and Wine Festival, works with the nonprofit Fresh Rx in Palm Beach to raise funds for their “food as medicine” program, and serves as secretary for the local United States Bartenders Guild while co-leading its national Health and Wellness committee.
Writing and Teaching Balance
As Libations Editor for Palm Beach Illustrated and a monthly columnist for Palm Beach Media Group’s portfolio of magazines, Aron maintains a steady presence in food and beverage conversations. But her teaching goes beyond recipes. Her consulting services for mindful drinking practices include mind-body exercises and techniques designed to help people find balance with alcohol consumption.
For someone deeply embedded in the bar world, Aron’s message remains consistent: a healthy lifestyle comes first. It’s an approach that continues to resonate as more professionals and brands look for ways to address changing consumer attitudes toward drinking without abandoning the craft entirely.
