John Copeland, a technology executive and gulf-war era veteran, has been recognized as Best New Author 2025 for his Through My Lens book series, a collection of five works that blend comprehensive historical research with personal insights from his three-decade career in communications and technology.
The series, which can be found at https://amzn.to/44oHIQf, encompasses four primary titles that tackle diverse subjects through Copeland’s unique perspective. The first book, The History of Visual Communications Through My Lens, traces the evolution of communications from ancient times to the present day, incorporating observations from his extensive career representing major technology companies including Polycom, Vbrick, and AVI-SPL.
Building on this foundation, Copeland released Artificial Intelligence Through My Lens, which examines the current state of AI technology and includes 500 prompts designed to help readers begin their journey with artificial intelligence. This work reflects his growing expertise in the field, supported by multiple certifications including CompTIA AI Essentials, Databricks AI Certification, and Writing.IO AI Certification. The book serves as a cornerstone for his AI consulting and training services, where he helps organizations navigate AI governance and workforce development.
The third installment, co-authored with his father John Copeland Sr., presents The History of Gambling and Strategy Guide. This comprehensive work traces gambling’s roots from ancient Rome through modern times and includes practical strategy guides for games including Blackjack, Mississippi Stud, and slot machines. The fourth book, the Copeland Family Travel Guide, stands out as a coffee table publication featuring high-quality photography of all 50 states and various international destinations, drawing from Copeland’s experience as a road warrior who spends up to 200 days annually traveling for business.
Copeland also penned a fiction work outside the series called The Adventures of Lucky Lewis, written in the style of Forrest Gump. The novel draws loosely from his father’s Navy service and his own seven years in the United States Air Force maintaining communication systems and computer networks in North Dakota.
A distinctive element across all five books is the credited contribution of Lexi, Copeland’s AI assistant, who worked extensively on the structure and content of each publication. This collaboration demonstrates Copeland’s commitment to practical AI integration, a theme central to his current work as Director of Business Development at AVI-SPL’s Experience Technology Group.
Copeland holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Northern Arizona University and an MBA from University of Phoenix. He serves on the board of directors for the United States Distance Learning Association and the Texas Digital Learning Association, where he is a founding member and Hall of Fame inductee.
