CharlottesvilleFamily Magazine, a cornerstone of parenting resources in Central Virginia for over 25 years, is expanding its community impact through two groundbreaking grant programs launched in 2025.
The publication recently unveiled its inaugural $5,000 Mompreneur Business Grant, designed specifically to support woman-owned businesses in Central Virginia. Jennifer Bryerton, publisher and co-founder of CharlottesvilleFamily Magazine, explained the motivation behind the initiative: “As a mother and small business owner myself, I know firsthand the challenges and creativity that come with balancing entrepreneurship and family life.”
Applications for the grant remain open through April 29, with finalists to be featured during Mother’s Day Week when community voting will determine the winner. Eligible businesses must be woman-owned, based in Central Virginia, operating for fewer than five years, and willing to participate in promotional activities throughout the year.
The Mompreneur grant represents just one facet of CharlottesvilleFamily’s renewed community focus. In late 2024, the magazine also established the “Doing Good” Marketing Grant, allocating $10,000 in marketing support to local nonprofits making meaningful contributions to family well-being. The inaugural recipient, Lilypads Housing, provides free, short-term accommodations for families receiving care at UVA Children’s Hospital.
“The ‘Doing Good’ Grant reflects our magazine’s mission to support family well-being and community connection. We look forward to helping bring kid-focused ideas to fruition that will have a lasting impact in the Charlottesville area,” said Bryerton.
Beyond financial initiatives, CharlottesvilleFamily is returning to in-person events in 2025. The inaugural CharlottesvilleFamily KidFest & Camp Expo took place February 23 at the Piedmont Family YMCA, offering families opportunities to explore camps, meet providers, and participate in activities suitable for all ages.
Bryerton, who began her career as an educator, brings her expertise in both education and parenting to her role at the publication. A mother of four with a Master’s in Education, she balances her publishing duties with an active family life that includes gardening, keeping beehives, and maintaining a chicken coop at her home west of Charlottesville.
The magazine’s evolution reflects changing media consumption patterns while maintaining its core mission. A streamlined print schedule now complements the publication’s digital content, ensuring readers receive timely information across multiple platforms. Additionally, the magazine has established an advisory panel of local experts to broaden its editorial perspective.
Since its founding in 1998, CharlottesvilleFamily Magazine has grown into a trusted resource for parents navigating the joys and challenges of raising children in Central Virginia. The publication offers expert advice, local event listings, and comprehensive guides to schools, camps, and health services.
Through its combination of practical parenting resources and community-building initiatives, CharlottesvilleFamily continues to strengthen the social fabric of the region while providing valuable marketing opportunities for businesses serving local families.
