When most people reach their 50s, they’re settling into routines and planning for retirement. Shelly and Shayne Peterson took a different path. The couple sold their home, cars, and business to embrace a life of full-time travel—a bold move that has since evolved into a thriving platform helping thousands of others reimagine their own possibilities.
The Petersons have now visited over 48 countries across five continents, logging more than 120,000 miles in just over two years of travel. What began as a personal adventure has transformed into Jetset Petersons, a travel lifestyle brand dedicated to proving that age and budget constraints don’t have to limit exploration.
“We created Jetset Petersons because we wanted people—especially people in their 50s and beyond—to know it’s not too late. You don’t have to be rich. You just have to be willing to go for it,” says Shelly Peterson.
Their platform consists of two main components. The first is their blog, which offers destination guides, budget-friendly travel tips, visa information, and personal stories from their journeys. Written in an approachable, conversational style, the content feels like advice from well-traveled friends rather than distant influencers.
The second branch is JetsetClub.co, a membership service that provides hand-picked flight deals—sometimes at discounts of up to 90 percent. This service caters to flexible travelers who are open to letting exceptional deals guide their destination choices.
The couple’s adventures have included living in a three-bedroom villa in Bali for just $900 per month, a beach-front condo in Vietnam for $600 a month and a boho-chic home in Tulum for under $500 a month, demonstrating that international living can be more affordable than many Americans realize. They’ve built a growing Instagram community centered around midlife freedom and adventure, and have developed custom GPT tools to help followers find ideal destinations and plan trips efficiently.
Looking ahead, the Petersons are expanding their hosted travel experiences, planning group trips to destinations worldwide, including a budget friendly trip to Egypt happening later this year. Their approach balances inspiration with practicality—they share both the triumphs and challenges of global travel, including what they jokingly refer to as “near scooter crashes.”
For those intrigued by the possibility of more adventure in their own lives, the couple’s travel resource platform offers a wealth of information on how to travel farther for less. Their story serves as a compelling reminder that it’s never too late to reimagine life’s possibilities.
The Petersons’ journey represents a growing trend of midlife reinvention, where adults are increasingly choosing experience over possessions and adventure over convention. Through their travel lifestyle brand, they’re not just documenting their own journey but creating a roadmap for others to follow—regardless of age or budget.
