A groundbreaking achievement in African hip-hop has emerged from an unexpected source, as “Empty Grave” becomes the most-streamed music video from Northern Ghana in YouTube history. The milestone marks a significant moment for both the region’s music scene and Dr. Pushkin, the Ghanaian hip-hop and Afrofusion artist behind the viral hit.
The music video, featuring collaborator B-Wayne and directed by Timtooni, dominated YouTube Ghana’s top 10 charts throughout January and February 2025, while simultaneously gaining traction on FM stations across Ghana, Sweden, and Brazil. Major Ghanaian entertainment networks 3Music and GTV have made the track a regular feature in their programming rotations.
This historic streaming achievement comes amid a string of international accolades for the Austin-based artist. “Empty Grave” secured the Best African Video Award at the Los Angeles Movie & Music Video Awards in April 2025, followed by a Gold Medal for Best Music Video at the Zepstone International Film & Music Festival in Salt Lake City. The artist has since accumulated over 10 international awards from prestigious competitions including the Global Music Awards and Europe Music Video Awards.
The success represents a remarkable trajectory for the Bolgatanga-born artist who co-founded Isolirium Entertainment with his brother Ataman Nikita. After breaking through in 2022 with four singles reaching Ghana’s Official Top 20 YouTube charts, Dr. Pushkin has steadily built momentum through strategic collaborations with established artists including Ofori Amponsah, Quata Budukusu, Lyrical Joe, Ko-Jo Cue, and CJ Biggerman.

The artist’s 2023 album “Outlandish” earned critical acclaim and led to his selection as an Essential Act at SXSW 2023 by the Austin Chronicle. His return to SXSW in 2025 saw him representing Ghana on the International Hip Hop Stage alongside Nigerian artist M.I. Abaga, where he debuted an acoustic component that signals a new creative direction.
The record-breaking performance of “Empty Grave” has generated significant anticipation for Dr. Pushkin’s upcoming album duology “No Heroes”/”No Miracles,” which features collaborations with Ataman Nikita, Strongman, Stevo Atambire, B-Wayne, AlaptaWan, and other prominent African artists.
For Northern Ghana’s music scene, the achievement represents more than streaming numbers. It demonstrates the global reach possible for artists from the region when combining traditional African beats with contemporary hip-hop production and conscious lyricism addressing social issues.
The video’s international recognition includes an Honorable Mention at the Europe Music Video Awards in Slovakia, Winner of Best World Song at Zepstone International Film & Music Festival, and official selections at the Los Angeles International Music Video Festival and Austin Spotlight Film Fest.
As Dr. Pushkin and Isolirium Entertainment continue to break barriers for Northern Ghanaian artists on the global stage, “Empty Grave” stands as a testament to the power of independent African hip-hop to transcend regional boundaries and capture international attention.
