Immigration Attorney Steve Perez has established himself as a prominent advocate for immigrant communities in the San Gabriel Valley since relocating his practice to Pasadena in May 2024. Drawing from 25 years of experience in immigration law and his own family’s immigrant story, Steve has built a reputation for combining compassionate client service with innovative legal strategies.
“It was very personal for me. My parents immigrated and left everything behind to come to this country in search of the American Dream. This backstory of my own family is what sparked my interest in becoming an Immigration Lawyer,” Steve explained during a recent interview.
The attorney’s connection to immigration runs deep. Growing up as his mother’s unofficial translator, Steve witnessed firsthand the challenges facing immigrant families. In 2023, he experienced a career-defining moment when he represented his mother in her citizenship case, watching her take the oath of allegiance as both her attorney and her son.
“Ever since I was a child, my mother always said I was her little ‘abogado’ because I always liked to find common ground with people, was her unofficial translator growing up and I also enjoyed dressing up in suits for special events,” Steve recalled. “As an attorney, these are the moments you live for and cherish forever. To be a voice for the voiceless, a champion for the less fortunate, and to always be in the service of others when they need you the most.”
Perez Legal Group specializes in family immigration cases, humanitarian protections including U visas and VAWA applications, and business immigration matters such as investor and EB2 visas. The firm’s approach emphasizes strategic planning, client-focused service, and deep community engagement.
The current political climate has intensified demand for immigration legal services. Steve noted that enforcement priorities have shifted, creating renewed uncertainty among immigrant communities. His office has seen increased requests from long-term residents and newcomers alike seeking guidance on their rights and options.
“There’s definitely been a renewed climate of fear and uncertainty. Enforcement priorities have shifted again, and we’re seeing clients reach out in a panic—some who have been here for decades, others who are just starting their process,” Steve observed. “The return of Trump-era enforcement tactics has led to increased scrutiny of humanitarian applications, denials for minor errors, and more deportation proceedings.”

In response to these challenges, the Pasadena-based immigration firm has helped numerous clients understand their rights and pursue available protections. Steve emphasized that the urgency of this work has never been greater.
One distinguishing feature of Steve’s practice is his integration of artificial intelligence tools to enhance client service while maintaining the personal touch that defines his approach. The firm uses AI to streamline waiver templates, automate client reminders, and develop educational content addressing common immigration questions.
“AI has allowed us to enhance everything from client communication to content marketing,” Steve explained. “But here’s the key—AI doesn’t replace human judgment. It needs direction, oversight, and a personal touch.”
In a change of pace, Steve’s 11-year-old son Jacob assists with the firm’s AI-powered marketing efforts, bringing a fresh perspective that helps keep the firm’s messaging accessible and relatable. This family involvement reflects the personal nature of the practice, where staff members like Brianna, who serves as the first point of contact for many clients, contribute to creating a welcoming environment.
“We understand that behind every immigration case is a human story—someone’s life, family, or business on the line,” Steve stated. “We make sure that every person who walks into our office or contacts us online feels seen, heard, and respected.”
The decision to establish the practice in Pasadena was strategic. Steve views the city as representative of America’s diversity, home to undocumented students, international researchers, restaurant workers, and mixed-status families. Each case presents unique challenges, but the goal remains consistent: creating stability and pathways forward for clients.
Despite being classified as a boutique practice, the firm has developed a strong online presence through its commitment to client service. Steve attributes this growth to his team’s dedication to following through, maintaining communication, and approaching each case with genuine care.
“It really comes down to one thing: how we treat people,” Steve emphasized. “Our amazing staff is a huge part of that.”
Looking ahead, Perez Legal Group plans to expand its online services in multiple languages for family cases, grow its investor and employment-based visa practice, and further integrate technology to improve efficiency and accessibility. However, Steve stressed that growth will not come at the expense of the firm’s core values.
“We’re going to keep growing—but with purpose,” he affirmed. “No matter how much we scale, our core values will stay the same: strategy, compassion, and community.”
The firm offers consultations in both English and Spanish from its Pasadena office, continuing its mission to serve as a resource for the San Gabriel Valley’s diverse immigrant communities during a time of heightened need and uncertainty.
